Friends from Underwood, North Dakota

Friends from Underwood, North Dakota

The Youth Gathering was amazing in every aspect of it, but one of the highlights of it was meeting people from all over the nation, like the group from Underwood, North Dakota, which all of us got along with.  Another highlight was the Servant Life project. Although it was hard pulling all those weeds it was great to do because I wanted to help out New Orleans and help restore it to what it was.  Being together with 37,000 Lutheran who were all there for the same reason was a great blast.  You didn’t go a day without a person with a “Free Hugs” sign.  My favorite highlight of the trip was of course the music which also included one of my favorite bands, Skillet.  This trip is something I wish every Christian could attend, and I really wish I could go once again.      –Joe Russell

Taking a quick break at City Park in New Orleans

Taking a quick break at City Park in New Orleans

Some the of the Highlights of our Trip to New Orleans:

“The train ride was a really great experience for me because I got to meet new people and spend all day playing cards with them and talking to them.  Another highlight was getting to go to the Superdome because once we actually got there I saw how many people there were.  I never thought 37,000 people was that many but I was wrong!  I loved going up to people and introducing myself and seeing where they are from and talking with them.  I also liked the service project we did, even thought we were outside for four hours straight picking ragweed on what seemed to be the hottest day all week.   We really did make a difference in the park and we even got to go back early because we worked so hard.  This trip was awesome and thing things on this list were just a few of the highlights.”  Samantha

“My favorite part of the trip was when we were in the Superdome.  We saw a really great band named Skillet.  When we were in the SuperDome, there were a lot of speakers who have done something great with the help of God, and it was very inspiring.  When we were doing our servant life project, it was awesome to see how much work we did.  We helped out the community greatly.  I really liked how we could just walk down the street and give

random hugs and high five’s.  It was amazing how friendly everyone was.”  Danielle

“There were many parts of the trip that I enjoyed. I really liked seeing the city and also a small stretch of the Mississippi from a paddleboat that we rode. It was also very fun to see all the different speakers and musicians who shared the work they are doing for Christ with us in the Superdome. It was very fun to meet people from all parts of the country and share Swedish fish packets with them. I enjoyed the authentic Louisiana meal that we shared and my swamp platter, (alligator, crawfish, and frog legs) was spectacular. our service project (pulling weeds) was very fulfilling and it really made me feel like we did something useful. The trip that we made to the Ninth Ward and the Lower Ninth Ward by bus after pulled weeds was very sobering. While our time in New Orleans was very fun and uplifiting, the train ride and layover in Chicago were also highlights of our trip.” Hans
